Video Speed Controller · Last updated: April 2026
1. What data is stored
Video Speed Controller stores the following data locally in your browser using
chrome.storage:
- Site speed preferences — the playback speed you chose for a site and whether you want it remembered (e.g. youtube.com → 1.5×)
- Disabled sites — a list of hostnames where you have turned the extension off
- Sync preference — whether you have enabled cross-device sync
No browsing history, video content, URLs, or personal information is ever stored.
2. Where data is stored
By default all data is stored in chrome.storage.local — it never leaves your
device.
If you enable the Sync toggle in Settings, data is additionally stored in
chrome.storage.sync, which Chrome synchronises across devices signed in to
the same Google account. This is handled entirely by Chrome — no data passes through any
server operated by this extension.
3. Data we do not collect
- No analytics or usage telemetry
- No crash reports or error logging to external services
- No identifiers (user ID, device ID, IP address)
- No information about which sites you visit
- No video content, titles, or metadata
4. Permissions explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
-
activeTab,tabs— to read the current tab's URL so the correct speed preference can be applied and the badge can be updated -
storage— to save your speed preferences locally (and optionally via Chrome Sync) -
scripting— to inject the content script into pages and to read video state for the Media Hub -
webNavigation— to broadcast speed changes to all frames (including iframes) on a page -
favicon— to display site favicons in the Settings page -
host_permissions (<all_urls>)— required so the content script can run on any site you visit. No data from these sites is collected.
5. Third-party services
This extension does not communicate with any third-party server, API, or analytics service. There are no embedded trackers, no advertising SDKs, and no remote configuration.
The Settings page loads the Montserrat font from Google Fonts. This request is made directly by your browser to Google's servers and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. No extension data is included in this request.
6. Data deletion
You can delete all stored data at any time:
- Per site — open the extension Settings page and delete individual entries
-
All data — remove the extension from Chrome
(
chrome://extensions), which deletes all locally stored data
7. Children's privacy
This extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. No personal data is collected from any user.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
